Maytag Washer Repair: Drain, Spin, and Lid Lock Systems
Maytag washers -- including the popular Bravos and Centennial top-load lines and the front-load MaximaXL -- are among the most commonly serviced laundry appliances in our NYC service area. These machines are built with commercial-grade components and heavy-duty drive systems, but the mechanical demands of hundreds of wash cycles per year eventually take a toll on key components.
The most frequent Maytag washer complaint is a machine that will not drain. Water remains in the tub at the end of the cycle, leaving clothes soaking wet. This is most commonly caused by a failed drain pump motor, but can also result from a foreign object lodged in the drain pump housing -- coins, hair clips, small clothing items, and other debris that passes through the wash basket and becomes trapped in the pump. A kinked or partially clogged drain hose is another common cause, particularly in NYC apartments where the hose runs through tight spaces behind the machine or along the wall to a standpipe.
Lid lock problems are another hallmark Maytag washer issue. On top-load models, the lid lock mechanism must engage before the washer will fill or begin agitation. When the lid lock motor fails, the lock mechanism jams, or the control board sends incorrect signals, the washer may repeatedly click and attempt to lock without success, display an error code, or refuse to start entirely. Our technicians test the lid lock motor, the lock strike alignment, and the control board signals to determine which component has failed. We carry replacement lid lock assemblies for the most common Maytag washer models and complete these repairs during a single visit in the majority of cases.
